On This Day, 18 Years ago, the Indian Cricket Team Created History!

In the trending cricket news, today die-hard cricket fans are discussing about India’s memorable achievement in 2007. Men in Blue won the 2007 T20 World Cup on 24 September 2007. Every Indian cricket fan celebrated the 2007 win after a 24-year-long wait.

Before the T20 WC, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and some senior players decided not to play that tournament, and then the selectors picked a young team under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Let’s dive into some of the best moments of the 2007 T20 WC. In that WC, MS Dhoni was the captain. It was his first experience as captain of the Indian cricket team. The 2007 T20 World Cup final played at Johannesburg, South Africa, India beat Pakistan by 5 runs. Winning this World Cup was a memorable moment in Indian cricket history.

The competition was being considered to test the growth of this format. Many doubt T20 cricket, but India has transformed the growth of this format. Because of this, the Indian Premier League (IPL) started in India in  April 2008.

Gautam Gambhir was the leading run scorer for India during that T20 WC with 227 runs in 6 matches, and RP Singh was the leading wicket taker of Team India. In this World Cup, he grabbed 12 wickets. Both played a crucial role in the success of the Indian cricket team during that tournament. Yuvraj Singh smashed 6 Sixes against Stuart Broad in the India vs England Match. Yuvraj posted 148 runs in that competition.

In the final match, Gambhir made 75 runs, and Rohit Sharma scored 30 runs in just 16 balls, which helped team India to post a competitive total of 157/5. Scores on the board always pressure in the final. That’s exactly what happened, Pakistan lost early wickets. All Indian bowlers bowled really well. Indian bowlers were the standout performers.  Especially, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, and Joginder Sharma. The pace bowler Irfan finished his bowling spell with 3 wickets for 16 runs in 4 overs with an excellent bowling economy of 4.00. RP Singh conceded 26 runs and picked up 3 wickets in the grand final.

In the final, Pakistan needed 13 runs in the last over. Indian Captain MS Dhoni chose Joginder Sharma to bowl the final over.  It was a masterstroke from Dhoni, and in the end, it worked. He took very important wickets of Misbah-ul-Haq and the catch of Sreesanth, which every Indian cricket fan can’t forget. It helped India to create history. During the post-match presentation,  captain Dhoni said, “Bhajji was not 100% sure. He was not getting the yorker right. So I thought to give a ball to someone who wants to do well.”

After winning the T20 WC, it is not just a new start in T20 cricket, but it has also changed the face of Indian cricket. MS Dhoni proved he can lead Team India in all 3 formats and made his mark after winning the first ICC Trophy as captain. It was the entire team performance from the Men in Blue with the young side. It was such a great moment in Indian cricket history.
