Remember the Healthcare Alamo

March 24, 2010

On March 6, 1836 General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna stormed the Alamo recapturing the mission-turned-fort for the Mexican Army. The fall of the Alamo was due to… well, the number of fighters. A series of events leading up to the battle (caused in large part by a general feeling that the Mexicans would not be back anytime soon) resulted in a 200 man defense stationed at the Alamo against a Mexican force of several thousand.

Much to the surprise of the commanders at the Alamo, General Santa Anna arrived with thousands of Mexican troops on February 23rd. Instead of surrendering, the small force decided to hold down the fort and pray reinforcements would arrive before the Mexicans could take it back. Reinforcements did not arrive in time and all defenders of the Alamo were slain including such famous American figures as David Crocket and James Bowie. There simply were not enough of them to hold off the much more numerous Mexican forces.

Upon notification of the fate of the Alamo’s defenders, General Sam Houston had no choice but to retreat until he had enough troops to face Santa Anna’s well-trained army. Finally, on April 21st with a force of approximately 1,200, Houston caught up to Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto. It took 18 minutes for Houston’s army to take the field and win the battle. The next day Santa Anna was captured and agreed to remove all Mexican troops from Texas — later recognizing Texas’s independence.

The similarities between the Battle of the Alamo and the battle over government-run healthcare thus far have been amazing. For example, the original troop count at the Alamo was around 170 with 32 reinforcements coming in from Gonzales shortly after the Mexicans arrived. In the House of Representatives, each of the 178 Republicans voted against the Senate’s version of a healthcare overhaul bill with 34 Democrat reinforcements joining them.

Additionally, the Republicans in both houses of Congress along with the majority of American people have held back the health care assault for about 13 months now, symbolic of the 13 day standoff at the Alamo.

And just as the fall of the Alamo was an unfortunate result of troop numbers, so was the case with the passage of health care “reform” and the vote count. The defenders of the republic just did not have enough people in office to vote against this legislation and — with the shameless, Chicago-style tactics of the White House and Democrat leadership — its passage was inevitable.

After having lost the Alamo and 200 men in such a brutal fashion, Sam Houston surely wanted to attack Santa Anna’s army right away, but he had to wait until he could raise the number of enlisted men to do so properly. Houston’s prudent strategy enabled him to win the Battle of San Jacinto in swift and devastating fashion. Likewise, the American people are forced to wait until November to vote their reinforcements into office, and it is expected that Republicans will win the 2010 mid-term elections in a comparable way to Houston at San Jacinto.

This is where hope relies on the continuation of similarities between these two battles though.

The November elections are a far way off yet and Democrats will no doubt try changing the subject to new, more popular agenda items immediately after passing this atrocious law to try and get back in the good graces of the public before votes are cast at the ballot box. The assumption is that the public will have a short attention span and forget about the health care process if Democrats can finally be seen as focusing their attention on job creating initiatives. If Democrats could spin a convincing argument that they are acting to improve economic conditions, many of them may stand a chance of holding on to their seats.

While the general public can at times demonstrate a short attention span, it is not likely the Democrats’ strategy will work. The problem being that the health care legislation will have the immediate effect of destroying existing jobs as well as untold amounts of future jobs with increases in taxes and regulation. Furthermore the Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of 2010 adding to the massive tax increases the new health care entitlement will create. There is reason to believe the expiration of these tax increases will come into play around election time, since expectations of future costs play a large role in businesses offloading employees. Short of renewing the Bush tax cuts, there is nothing the Democrats can do that will mitigate the negative effects they are having on the economy and the prosperity of average voting citizens.

Moreover, countless lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the health care legislation will be filed once the bill is signed. These suits will be commanding headlines continuously between now and November, and will eventually get to the Supreme Court. As the threat of a decision to overturn the bill gains ground, Americans will be aware and engaged. Having the health care overhaul challenged in the courts will be a strong negative for Democrat candidates and will keep the attention of their constituents focused on voting them out.

Just as Texan soldiers cried out “Remember the Alamo!” at the Battle of San Jacinto, current outrage needs to be kept fresh in the minds of the disapproving public in order to see the predicted mid-term election defeat through to its end. While it is not likely that Republicans can gain enough seats to repeal the bill and override a veto from President Obama, majorities in both houses can be won and the bleeding can be stopped.

The Battle of the Alamo was a heroic fight that played a pivotal role in the eventual addition of Texas to the union, but it was a costly and devastating loss at the time. Fourteen years went by before the U.S. Army rebuilt the fortifications at the Alamo after being destroyed by Mexican troops who were ordered out. Here’s hoping it does not take quite as long to rebuild what the Democrats have destroyed since last January.

Another Health Care System Failure

February 3, 2010

Note to President Obama:
We know that you want to pattern American health care after the model used in Europe.
Please don’t use this country’s “experienced” doctors as an example.
This is the sort of thing we could expect under Obamacare.
Although charging a jar of honey as a fee for saving someones life seems pretty reasonable.

A Polish beekeeper pronounced dead after he suffered a suspected heart attack was about to be sealed up in a coffin when a funeral director miraculously discovered a faint pulse.

Jozef Guzy collapsed as he started work among his beloved hives near the southern city of Katowice.

An ambulance was called and an experienced doctor declared that the 76-year-old had died.

Jerzy Wisniewski, a spokesman for the Regional Ambulance Service in Katowice, said: ‘The patient was not breathing, there was no heart beat, the body had cooled – all are the characteristics of death.

Three hours later, an undertaker arrived to take Mr Guzy’s body away.

Another American Health Care System Failure

February 3, 2010

NOT!

If the American health care system ranks below thirty other countries, as one of our commenters recently claimed, why is Danny Williams, the Canadian Premier of Newfoundland, coming to America later this week for heart surgery?

Why isn’t he traveling to Michael Moore’s idea of health-care utopia, Cuba?

Then again, when Moore made propaganda piece “Sicko”, he neglected to mention that when Fidel Castro needed surgery, he went to Spain.

Ray Stevens-We The People

January 21, 2010

If ever there was an anthem for the Tea Party Movement, this is it!

It’s a damn shame that the people hell-bent on ramming Obamacare down our throats, even after the election of Scott Brown plainly showed that the majority of Americans, not just members of the Tea Party, don’t want it.

Any rational politican would look at the results of Tuesday’s election in Massachusetts and realize that, if they shouldn’t abandon the health care reform bill entirely, they should at least step back and start over.

Instead we get such liberal loonies as Nancy Pelosi swearing that, one way or another, the Democrats will pass health care.

I know it’s a forlorn hope that Pelosi, Reid, and the rest of the Obamacare supporters will listen to Ray Stevens message in this video, but they really should, because he is speaking for We The People.

Health Care Reform Is On Life Support

January 21, 2010

With Tuesday’s historic election victory in Massachusetts for the Republicans, President Obama and his cronies are scrambling for ways to salavge their health care reform package, a package that the election of Scott Brown to the Senate should show them that the American people don’t want.
But hey, liberals still feel that they know whats best for us.
Whether we like it or not.

Chastened by the Democratic Senate loss in Massachusetts, President Barack Obama and congressional allies signaled Wednesday they may try to scale back his sweeping health care overhaul in an effort to at least keep parts of it alive.

A simpler, less ambitious bill emerged as an alternative only hours after the loss of the party’s crucial 60th Senate seat forced the Democrats to slow their all-out drive to pass Obama’s signature legislation despite fierce Republican opposition. The White House is still hoping the House can pass the Senate bill in a quick strike, but Democrats are now considering other options.

No decisions have been made, lawmakers said, but they laid out a new approach that could still include these provisions: limiting the ability of insurance companies to deny coverage to people with medical problems, allowing young adults to stay on their parents’ policies, helping small businesses and low-income people pay premiums and changing Medicare to encourage payment for quality care instead of sheer volume of services.

The goal of trying to cover nearly all Americans would be put off further into the future.

Obama urged lawmakers not to try to jam a bill through, but scale the proposal down to what he called “those elements of the package that people agree on.”

Moderate Senators Are Mental Midgets

November 24, 2009

I have always thought that calling a politician a “moderate” was sort of like saying a rabid pit bull was only slightly unpleasant.

Generally, anyone calling themselves a moderate has no convictions of their own, they simply judge their statements and actions on which way the wind is blowing.

At least, that has been the case up until now.

The debate over universal health care has changed all that.

Now, some Senators are voting for what they want, and don’t give a damn what their constitutents want.

Opposition to government-run health care grows day by day, yet these liberal lunatics are hell bent on ramming Obamacare down our throats whether we want it or not.

A prime example of this “we know what’s best for you, even if you are too stupid to realize it” is Colorado Senator Michael Bennet.

Senator Bennet, in spite of what the citizens of Colorado want, is on record as having said that he will support health care reform even if it means losing his Senate seat.

I am going to take it upon myself to inform Senator Bennet of something just as I would if I happened to live in Colorado:

Dear Senator Stupid:

We don’t care what you want!

In case you are either too brain-dead or too arrogant to remember, the only reason you are keeping that cushy job is because you are supposed to represent the electorate.

Don’t be scared that your fellow liberals in the Senate will look down on you, don’t worry too much about threats from Joe Biden, because if you or any other Senator who is up for re-election in 2010 continues to say the hell with the voters, I’m going to do what I want, you better make the most of it while you can.
                                                                                                                              Sincerely
                                                                                                                                      A concerned constitutent

For a few moments, I had trouble coming to grips with this guy’s totsl disregard of anything other than his own wishes.

Then I remembered that, when it comes to Obamacare, both the House and the Senate could care less about public opinion.

I have a news flash for any member of Congress who plans on supporting the travesty that is Obamacare.

Years from now, when your grandchildren ask how it happened that you were voted out of office, if you give them an honest answer, you will tell them it was because you went against the wishes of the majority of the American public.

Breaking News! White House Appoints An “Or Else” Czar

November 23, 2009

President Obama has appointed more Czars Than the Romanov Empire ever had.

Bigot Czar, Mad Scientist Czar, Animal Rights Czar, Communist Czar, along with a host of others.

One appointment that flew under the radar was the picking of an “Or Else” Czar, as in you will do what you are told, or otherwise be prepared to suffer the consequences.

The first name that probably comes to mind is Rahm Emanuel, but you may be surprised to learn that it’s not him.

In addition to his other duties, President Obama has decided that Vice-President Joe Biden should be the administration’s chief legbreaker.

With a line that could have come straight out of an episode of the Sopranos, Biden made it clear that members of Congress pledging loyalty to the President have nothing to fear, while for those opposing him there will be hell to pay.

After last weeks Senate vote on health care reform, here is what Biden had to say:

“Those who voted for reform will be rewarded and those who voted against it will be held accountable.”

To me, that sounds more like the ravings of a ticked-off Mafia godfather than a rational statement from a Vice-President of the United States.

I can just imagine the after the vote conversation between the President and the Vice-President:

OK, we’ll give Gillibrand and Schumer all the construction and longshoreman contracts on the Lower East Side, but we better bring Hatch and Bennet in for a sit-down and let them know what it means to go against the family.”

Where the hell does Joe Biden get off telling members of the United States Senate that they will have their feet held to the fire for voting with their conscience?

Has the Obama adminisrtation become so power-mad that it plans to destroy anyone who dares to stand in it’s way?

Various pundits have compared the Obama way of doing things to Chicago-style politics.

Thanks to Joe Biden, we can rest assured that Al Capone would have been proud.

Democrats Use Nuclear Option On Obamacare

October 17, 2009

Sneaky? Yes
Underhanded? Of Course
Dirty Pool? You Bet
Does any of this bother the Democrats? Fat Chance

House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) held a hearing this morning to certify that H.R. 3200 — the main House Obamacare bill which was the subject of all the town hall rage in August — has met all requirements to pass as a “budget reconciliation” measure.

Under reconciliation, the bill can be passed by a simple majority vote in the Senate — just 51 votes — and will be given preferential treatment on the House floor as well. The Dems have apparently invoked the “nuclear option” to shut out Republicans and ensure the bill is passed before the end of the year.

The bill certified for “reconciliation” is the Ways & Means version of H.R. 3200 that was passed out of committee before the August break, and before it was read aloud at town hall meetings across the country and blasted…Read the rest of this entry

Organizing For America Promotes Fascism

October 6, 2009

Members of Organizing for America, or as we call them, Obama’s Army, are dedicated to spreading the President’s message.

But only if it’s the President’s message.

If you don’t agree with that message, they don’t want to hear from you.

And they are willing to violate your Constitutional rights if that is what it takes to keep you quiet:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

What are the members of Obama’s Army so afraid of?

Are they worried about people discovering that they don’t have the slightest idea of the details of the President’s health care reform bill?

We have pointed that out in previous articles.

Are they afraid that someone may ask them specifics as to how the President is going to pay for this?

Perhaps that is why, at an Organizing For America rally supporting health care, they pulled off the following underhanded maneuver:

I would like one of you members of the Kool-Aid Brigade to explain to me how you can justify banning American citizens from a public park?

Not a private, closed door meeting, but a taxpayer-supported public area that, by law, should be accessible to any law-abiding individual.

Of course, some of the Organizing For America zealots interviewed in the video provided their own answers to that question.

And the truly frightening thing is that one of these members of OFA spelled it out, but was either too stupid or was too blinded by ideology to realize it.

As is the case with select members of Congress, who would no doubt support your efforts.

The ones who label Tea Party protestors as Nazis, racists, and whatever other vile term they can come up with

So for all of you members of Obama’s Army who are completely clueless, (99.9% of you), as well as such legislators as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, etc., allow us to spell it out for you.

There is a word for when you try to control the media.

A word that applies when you try to restrict the free-flow of speech, and public access to public areas.

A word for when the only message you want people to hear is your message.

That word is Fascism.

Jimmy Carter Speaks On Racism, Revisionism, And Republicans

October 4, 2009

Former President Jimmy Carter recently made the ludicrous claim that opposition to Barack Obama is based upon racism.

A few days ago, he denied making that statement.

On these pages we have disputed his racism claim in terms that even a peanut-head like Mr. Carter should be able to understand.

However, for those of you who may be coming in late, perhaps President Carter is changing his tune because, as we have stated earlier, people don’t oppose President Obama’s policies because he is black, they oppose President Obama because of his policies!

And of course the majority of the voices raisied against the President are those of Republicans.

So what caused  Carter to try and take back his racial slurs against Tea Party protestors, people speaking out at town hall health care reform events, etc., and more importantly, does he really think the rest of us are as delusional as he is?

Because that is the only possible explanation as to how he thinks we would forget his words.

Here is his original interview:

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American.”

That statement seems fairly plain to me.

No taking it “out of context”, no need to put a “right wing” spin on it.

It’s fairly plain that Carter is saying that if you speak out against President Obama, it is because you are a racist, or at the very least that you have tendencies towards racism.

All because the man leading America is a black man.

Now however, Carter is revising his remarks:

So which one is it Jimmy?

Are we racists, or are we just part of a “fringe” element?

You know, Jimmy Carter has always struck me as being so stupid that if it was raining chicken soup, he would run outside holding a fork.

And his latest remarks have only served to confirm that belief.

Someone please take President Carter by the hand and explain to him that Tea Party protestors, town hall attendees, and Republicnas themselves are not racists.
Speaking out against the President is not racism.
It is called democracy.

Then try and make him understand that two million people showing up for a 9-12 event in Washington D.C. is surely not a fringe element.

Point out to him that, if he makes a statement that is recorded, it’s a bit silly to say “I never said that.”

Last of all. find him a comfortable chair, take him out to his peanut patch, and let him go back to visiting whatever world it is that he lives in.
