Franken Lays Into Axelrod On Obamacare
February 5, 2010
When a cast member from Saturday Night Live turned U.S. Senator says you’re off track, you’ve really lost your way.
Sen. Al Franken ripped into White House senior adviser David Axelrod this week during a tense, closed-door session with Senate Democrats.
Five sources who were in the room tell POLITICO that Franken criticized Axelrod for the administration’s failure to provide clarity or direction on health care and the other big bills it wants Congress to enact.
The sources said Franken was the most outspoken senator in the meeting, which followed President Barack Obama’s question-and-answer session with Senate Democrats at the Newseum on Wednesday. But they also said the Minnesotan wasn’t the only angry Democrat in the room.
“There was a lot of frustration in there,” said a Democratic senator who declined to be identified.
“People were hot,” another Democratic senator said.
Democratic senators are frustrated that the White House hasn’t done more to win over the public on health care reform and other aspects of its ambitious agenda — and angry that, in the wake of Scott Brown’s win in the Massachusetts Senate race, the White House hasn’t done more to chart a course for getting a health care bill to the president’s desk.
Barack Obama Is Becoming An Astroturfer
January 25, 2010
Is President Obama about to join the Tea Party?
Probably not.
However, the same administration that made dozens of untrue accusations against the Tea Party movement no seems to be adopting the same tactics that they were falsely blaming on a grassroots movement of concerned citizens.
Who is Ellie Light?
I predict you’ll start seeing the question as a popular bumper sticker soon (a la “Who is John Galt?”…and voila, someone has already made a t-shirt!).
It’s a handy rhetorical rejoinder the next the White House or your nutroots neighbors and co-workers try to tar the Tea Party or any other grass-roots revolts against President Obama as phony, top-down operations.
When Obama’s Soros-funded, Big Labor-directed, K Street-organized goons engage in classic projection and you need a glib way to call out the pot calling the kettle black, just snap back:
Who is Ellie Light?
A Cleveland Plain Dealer blog first broke the story over the weekend of a “suspicious” letter-writer named “Ellie Light” who submitted more than a dozen pro-Obama letters to the editors in recent weeks using addresses from Philadelphia to California and all points in between. Open-source-optimizing blogger Patterico has added much more information on both “Donald Trump Astroturfing” (”a letter published in multiple places from one person claiming to live in multiple cities”) and “David Axelrod Astroturfing” (”identical letters published in multiple places claiming to be from different people”).
Obama’s Dream Team
January 24, 2010
Obama is gathering his forces to try and prevent Democratic disaster this November.
WASHINGTON — President Obama is reconstituting the team that helped him win the White House to counter Republican challenges in the midterm elections and recalibrate after political setbacks that have narrowed his legislative ambitions.
Mr. Obama has asked his former campaign manager, David Plouffe, to oversee House, Senate and governor’s races to stave off a hemorrhage of seats in the fall. The president ordered a review of the Democratic political operation — from the White House to party committees — after last week’s Republican victory in the Massachusetts Senate race, aides said.
In addition to Mr. Plouffe, who will primarily work from the Democratic National Committee in consultation with the White House, several top operatives from the Obama campaign will be dispatched across the country to advise major races as part of the president’s attempt to take greater control over the midterm elections, aides said.
“We are turning the corner to a much more political season,” said David Axelrod, a senior adviser, who confirmed Mr. Plouffe’s role. “We are going to evaluate what we need to do to get timely intelligence and early warnings so we don’t face situations like we did in Massachusetts.”
The CHANGE Obama Promised Has Arrived. Or Has It?
November 7, 2009
This weekend we will be bringing you a series of articles that may escape your notice otherwise, but that we feel are important enough that you should know about them.
This article examines if the change that President Obama promised us has happened yet.
Seems like business as usual to us.
Or worse.
In the year since he was elected president, Barack Obama has revealed himself as one of the boldest leaders to occupy the Oval Office in the modern era.
In that same year, Obama also has revealed himself to be an innately self-protective, constantly calibrating and, in some surprising ways, supremely conventional politician.
So who is Barack Obama? The drama of this presidency — in sharp relief with Wednesday’s one-year anniversary of his 2008 triumph — revolves around how Obama navigates his own contradictions.
Obama turns out not to be a Bill Clinton-style centrist or a Paul Wellstone-style liberal. His plans for health care and his trillion-plus dollars in new spending have earned the ire of Rush Limbaugh for being too grandiose and of Arianna Huffington for not being grandiose enough.
Obama is the president as grand improvisationalist: a leader of epic ambitions who — when faced with a difficult choice — almost always pursues his aims with a pedestrian strategy and style.
This may be a shrewd approach to governing. But it manages almost by definition to defy and disappoint the huge — and wildly divergent — expectations Obama encouraged supporters to harbor for his presidency.
How to Get Your Name On The White House Enemies List
October 24, 2009
You could get a job with Fox News.
That one is pretty much a no-brainer.
However, there are a multitude of other methods.
You could take part in a Tea Party event. (That way, not only will you make the enemies list, you’ll be a racist as well.)
You could be someone from a small town bitterly clinging to your guns and your religion.
According to Obama, if you oppose amnesty for illegal aliens you are a “demagogue.”
I almost forgot, again. if you are a Tea Party protestor, you are also part of an “angry mob” as well as being a potential terrorist.
If you oppose underhanded, backroom Chicago-style wheeling and dealing, you probably will make the cut.
You could be a “dishonest and partisan” Republican who opposes his health care plan.
And if you don’t fall into any of those categories, don’t despair, there are many ways to get yourself listed as an enemy of Obama.
You could be a capitalist, a pro-lifer, a supporter of the Second Amendment, a global-warming skeptic, one of those “Drill Here Drill Now” people, even something as simple as being a patriotic American can help you make the grade.
The President has also said that “I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking.”
So if you don’t want your name on Obama’s enemy list, you better keep your mouth shut.
Some members of Congress seem determined to make the list, despite our advice.
Speaking about the White House call for a boycott of Fox News, Representative Jason Altmire had this to say:
“I think it’s beneath the White House to get into a tit for tat with news organizations.”
While America faces a growing list of problems, Representative Eric Cantor complained about the loss of focus while the White House “bickers with a cable news network.”
I can hear President Obama now:
Axelrod! Put their names on the list!
Naturally, this is not the first time in world history that a nation’s leader has kept an eye on anyone who speaks out against him.
Just a few of the people from the past who kept the same sort of list that Obama seems to be patterning his on were such fair-minded individuals as former paranoiac-in-chief President Richard Nixon, Vladimir Lenin, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and, last but not least, the personal favorite of White House Communications Director Anita Dunn, one her favorite political philosophers, Mao Zedong
A few of you are feeling pretty smug right now, thinking that currently, only in America, the land of opportunity, could someone from any walk of life get their name on their country’s leader’s enemies list.
Sorry to break this to you, but President Obama is far from being the only world leader who keeps a list of those who dare oppose him.
Some of the others are:
North Korea
Iran
Cuba
Equatorial Guinea
Saudi Arabia
Liberia
Sudan
The leaders of these countries, along with President Obama, keep track of anyone who doesn’t care for the way they do things.
I wonder what George Orwell would have to say about this?
We Report, You Decide: Who Is Legitimate,FOX News Or The White House?
October 21, 2009
The “most transparent administration in history” is having a real problem with Fox News.
Which makes them the most un-focused administration in history.
Even the most die-hard members of the Kool-Aid Brigade should be asking “Don’t you people have more important things to do?”
Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The economy.
Unemployment.
The Deficit.
And a host of other vital issues facing America, and the White House is whining that it doesn’t think Fox News is treating them fairly?
Apparently, in the Obama administration, it’s acceptable to try and silence your critics.
Other points of view are not allowed.
And they call us Nazis?
Senior White House Advisor David Axerod called on other media to join the administration’s claim that “Fox is not a legitimate news organization.”
In an interview on ABC, he went on to state that “Other news organizations like yours ought not to treat them that way.” “We’re not going to treat them that way.”
White House spokesperson Anita Dunn said the White House “stopped providing guests” to Fox News Sunday after Chris Wallace fact-checked statements made by an administration official.
Dunn said the fact checking of an administration official was something she had never seen a Sunday show do.
I guess no one ever fact-checked George Bush.
Or maybe Anita has just started watching television since she joined the Obama administration.
During an interview on CNN, White House Chief-Of-Staff Rahm Emanuel, when asked about Fox News, had this to say:
“It’s not a news organization so much as it has a perspective, and that’s a different take…”
Keep in mind people that these are so-called adults making these statements.
I haven’t heard so much “No Fair” whining since I was in grammar school.
And apparently others share my point of view.
Thomas DeFrank, a man who has covered the administrations of eight different Presidents and serves as the bureau chief of the New York Daily News had this to say:
“I can never remember a White House urging news organizations to boycott other news organizations. That strikes me as unprecedented.”
Does that help bring into focus that we have whiny brats running around the halls of the White House?
The fact that a man who has been covering White House goings-on for over forty years has never seen such outright stupidity before?
So what would the Obama administration consider to be fair and balanced coverage?
Maybe something like the opinions of these two “journalists”
“Always speak before Barack Obama, not after Barack Obama.”
“I felt this thrill running up my leg.”
The Obama adminsitration and the White House staff prays that they could sway Fox News to the same sort of un-biased journalism.
Then they would be saying that it’s “CHANGE we can believe in.”
FOX’s Major Garrett vs White House Press Secretary Over Emails
August 16, 2009
So how does White House press secretary Robert Gibbs explain people receiving e-mails from Obama crony David Axelrod regarding health care?
It’s real simple.
He doesn’t.
When questioned as to how individuals who have had no prior contact with the White House, have never asked to have their names added to an e-mail list, etc., are receiving messages from one of Obama’s top hatchet men, Gibbs ducks and weaves like a heavyweight boxer.
This kind of reminds me of Richard Nixon and his infamous “enemies” list.
Remember Nixon, the paranoid President who kept a list of the names of anyone who spoke out against him?
Seems like the White House asking people to snitch on anything that they see that is against the health care reform bill isn’t the only thing here that is fishy:
I really need to get my eyes checked.
Because I still can’t see the transparency of the Obama administration.
The Horrors Of Obamacare
July 3, 2009
The White House, Democrats and MoveOn liberals are spreading health care sob stories to sell a government takeover. But there’s one health care policy nightmare you won’t hear the Obamas hyping. It’s a tale of poor minority patient-dumping in Chicago — with first lady Michelle Obama’s fingerprints all over it.
Both Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois have raised red flags about the outsourcing program run by the University of Chicago Medical Center. The hospital has nonprofit status and receives lucrative tax breaks in exchange for providing charity care.
Yet, in fiscal year 2007, when Mrs. Obama was employed there, it spent a measly $10 million on charity care for the poor — 1.3 percent of its total hospital expenses, according to an analysis performed for The Washington Post by the nonpartisan Center for Tax and Budget Accountability.
