9th Circuit Court Says “Under God” Is OK

March 13, 2010

A federal appeals court in San Francisco has ruled against atheist Michael Newdow’s argument that the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance violates the separation of church and state.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, on a 2-1 vote, declared that the wording is constitutional.

My Appeal To The ACLU

March 12, 2010

Regular visitors to this site probably never expected to see me call out to the ACLU for assistance.

Truth be told, never in my wildest dreams did I see it happening either.

However, the Obama administration is forcing me to do so.

Otherwise, I may be headed to jail.

A few days ago, I wrote of a plan working it’s way through Congress that would require all working Americans to be issued and carry a National ID card, supposedly as a means of controlling illegal immigration.

I’ve just finished reading a news report that the bill could be presented to President Obama as early as this coming week.

And this is why I will need the help of someone from the American Civil Liberties Union.

Because I flat-out refuse to carry such a card.

Chris Calabrese of the ACLU had this to say about the plan:

“We’re talking about fingerprinting every single american worker, and that card, in turn, will probably be used not only to work but also to travel, to vote, perhaps even to own a gun.”

I have no idea what the penalties might be for refusing to knuckle under to this scheme that is right out of a police state, but I will say this to the two main sponsors of this national ID plan,
Senators Charles Schumer and Lindsay Graham:

                                                                       See You In Court!

Wyoming Passes Firearms Freedom Act

March 12, 2010

The Wyoming State Senate, on a 30-0 vote, this week passed HB95, the Firearms Freedom Act.

Wyoming  joins Tennessee, Utah and Montana in exercising their Tenth Amendmment, or “state sovereignty” rights.

The bill states in part:

A personal firearm, a firearm action or receiver, a firearm accessory, or ammunition that is manufactured commercially or privately in the state to be used or sold within the state is not subject to federal law or federal regulation, including registration, under the authority of Congress to regulate interstate commerce.

And these aren’t just pretty words, the Act has some teeth in it:

Any official, agent or employee of the United States government who enforces or attempts to enforce any act, order, law, statute, rule or regulation of the United States government upon a personal firearm, a firearm accessory or ammunition that is manufactured commercially or privately in Wyoming and that remains exclusively within the borders of Wyoming shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, shall be subject to imprisonment for not more than two (2) years, a fine of not more than ten thousand dollars ($2,000.00), or both.

In other words Congress, mind your own damn business!

There’s A Communist Living In The White House

March 10, 2010

I admit to having never been a big fan of Saturday Night Live.

And what passes for political humor on the show nowadays, as well as in it’s glory days, never struck me as all that funny.

Which may have been because they seemed to favor making conservatives look like buffons, and liberals look like rocket scientists.

I will also admit that I may have been missing something, as shown here by SNL alum Victoria Jackson:

Illegal Immigration Is Making America A Police State

March 9, 2010

Both Republicans and Democrats have failed to take any meaningful steps in the battle against illegal immigration.

And the few who have tried to take steps against the influx of illegal aliens, such as Hazleton Pennsylvania mayor Lou Barletta, find their city ordinances being challenged in federal court, with little to no support from the government, in fact the feds are usually the ones issuing the challenge.

So what have our brain-dead members of Congress come up with now?

Democrat Senator Charles Schumer and Republican Lindsey Graham are behind a bill that will require all American workers to carry a biometric identification card.

I guess I had better win the lottery pretty soon, because I will be damned if I will allow the government to fingerprint me as if I were a common criminal.

Taking the fingerprints of someone who is joining the armed forces, or is working for the government in a security-sensitive position is one thing, but you mean to tell me that the best idea Congress can come up with to fight illegal immigration is scan the fingerprints of a teenager applying for a job at Burger King?

To showcase just how ludicrous this idea is, you need look no further than the fact that, on this issue, the ACLU and I are in agreement.

“It is fundamentally a massive invasion of people’s privacy,” said Chris Calabrese, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union.
“We’re not only talking about fingerprinting every American, treating ordinary Americans like criminals in order to work.
“We’re also talking about a card that would quickly spread from work to voting to travel to pretty much every aspect of American life that requires identification.”

Calabrese makes some excellent points, and I for one will go on record right now as saying that I won’t stand for it.

And I have a feeling that I’m far from being the only one who feels that way.

Bush Was Wrong, And Obama Is Right

March 3, 2010

To hear President Obama and his fellow Democrats tell it, every problem that America is facing is due to the policies of the Bush administration.

It’s only a matter of time until we hear press secretary Robert Gibbs place the blame for record snowfalls and sticking gas pedals on Toyotas on George W’s shoulders.

So can someone please explain to me how the Patriot Act, a law that President Obama called a “shoddy piece of legislation”, is suddenly a good thing?

Obama has called on Congress to extend three provisions of the Patriot Act that are due to expire at the end of this year.

The conditions that President Obama hopes to extend relate to wiretapping, business records, and potential terrorists acting alone.

The roving wiretap clause allows authorities to monitor the phone records of an individual, not just a particular phone number.
This is a handy tool in the fight against terrorists who can frequently change phones.

The business records provision allows law enforcement to seize various records of a suspected terrorist, the most important being financial records.
I don’t mean to sound flippant, but in the war against terrorism, as in many aspects of life, by applying the principle of  ”follow the money”, authorities can gain quite a bit of intelligence.

And the “lone wolf” provision allows for the monitoring of an individual suspected of being involved with terrorist activities while not being linked to a particular terrorism cell.

During the George Bush administration, the Patriot Act was derided as “an infringement of our civil liberties.”

During the Barack Obama administration, provisions of the same “shoddy piece of legislation”
are being renewed in the war against terrorism.

Or, to use the current White House terminology, against “enemy combatants.”

The “most ethical administration in history” is fast becoming the most hypocritical administration in history.

Bones Benefit From Beer

February 27, 2010

In a recent edition of the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, researchers from the University of California at Davis have found that beer is a significant source of silicone, which helps increase bone density.

Somebody tell Sally Field, who’s always yakking about osteoporosis,  to put down the BONIVA and pick up a Budweiser.

Boy Scouts Award Merit Badge For Killing

February 27, 2010

According to the folks at PETA, “Promoting fishing teaches young people that hooking, maiming, suffocating, and killing is acceptable.”

They are calling on the Boy Scouts of America to retire it’s “Fishing” and “Fish and Wildlife Management” merit badges.

I’m starting to think that the folks at PETA are smoking something, and it ain’t fish.

My son became a Cub Scout as soon as he was old enough, and ended up become an Eagle Scout.

Throughout the years, his troop went on dozens of fishing trips, even going deep-sea fishing a few times, and instead of growing up to become a violent person, he became an EMT.

When I was younger, I spent my summers going fishing on an almost daily basis.

Did I grow up to believe that cruelty to animals was acceptable?

Quite the contrary, one of my fondest dreams is to someday be able to move off of the busy street I live on so that I can get a dog and not have to worry about it getting hit by a car.

I think that this group needs to change their name form People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to Pinheads Exploiting the Truly Asinine.

New Taliban Training Video

February 26, 2010

From the 2-24 edition of the Pakistan Daily Times:

PARACHINAR: Five Taliban were killed and four others were injured on Tuesday when the explosives that they were planting around their hideout detonated accidentally in Ali Sherzai Dar village, Kurram Agency, officials said.
According to eyewitnesses, the Taliban wanted to blow up the house –vacated by local anti-Taliban leader Ghazi Marjan – due to the security forces’ operation in the area when the explosive material accidentally went-off, killing five of them and injuring four others.
Two of the injured reported to be in critical condition. However, AFP put the death toll at four and reported six Taliban wounded in the explosion. The Taliban had been using the deserted house as a dumping ground for people kidnapped for ransom.

That being the case, the leaders of the Taliban are now requiring all new recruits to watch the following video:

Obama’s Army Takes To The Airwaves

February 26, 2010

Organizing For America, in alliance with the Democratic National Committee, is about to become even more annoying than usual.

The latest plan to promote a message that no one wants to listen to is to have OFA members call-in to conservative talk radio shows and try and discuss health care reform.

The DNC was smart enough to realize that your average member of Organizing For America is not intellectually equipped to match wits with a Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh, so they have prepared a list of tips and talking points.

However, with typical liberal stupidity, the script does leave out one major point.

And that is how should one of the members of the Kool-Aid Brigade respond when someone such as Glenn Beck asks them their thoughts on the fact that the majority of American’s don’t want Obamacare?
