That is why Republicans have been pushing to allow small businesses to group together through small business associations so they can buy health insurance at the same rates large companies can.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/10/republicans-obama-heres-health-plans/

Seeing how most people in this country work for a small business, this would greatly help the individual. And there are other proposals to detach health insurance from employers altogether, allowing consumers and insurance companies to work directly with each other on a nationwide basis -- again like the auto insurance industry. These options are far more attractive than a government option.

It has to be more than just federal regulation of insurance. That will still not level the playing field between large companies and individuals. This is why a public option is important.

@Turfkiller

So it looks like we agree. The federal govt. should get rid of state mandates, and open the market nationally if they really want to lower the "skyrocketing" costs. They are very well capable of doing it. If they don't move in this direction they are not serious about cutting costs.

How they bypass capitalism.

Health insurance is regulated at the state level, and under the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945, 15 U.S.C. section 1011, no federal antitrust law applies to the industry in any state in which such state-level regulation exists. This exemption is the major culprit in the creation and perpetuating of non-competitive health insurance.

The McCarran-Ferguson exemption from the Sherman Antitrust Act for health insurers is the strangle-hold the insurance monopoly has on health care costs. This was recently reported by the American Medical Association and discussed by Ratigan on MSNBC.

Only two industries are legally exempted from the Sherman Antitrust Act, Major League Baseball and Health Insurance companies.

One reason our products and services are so expensive is due in part to the uncompetitive nature of the health care industry.

I agree.

Capitalism = competition for market share. Open the market and let companies compete nationwide and there is no need for the government to step in. A Government option is not competition, it is a power grab.

Dear Werner Cech, One reason our products and services are so expensive is due in part to the uncompetitive nature of the health care industry. It consumes too many resources with limited results.

Also you need to get use to having a President that can do more than one thing at a time.

Well Obama has definetly killed Capitalism. Here we are stuck with a terrible government for 4 more years. Why don't people realize that government needs to step out of the way? The President should worry about the defense of this nation, rebuilding our infrastructure, and making sure competition is fair in this country. We don't need national healthcare, we need to bring competition and a new set of rules to this industry. God Help us because we are in "deep sh__"

I can see why someone would have a screen name like No 2 whitey and say something of the sort. Penciled in light color.. it has nothing to do with racism or the color of a man.. it has to do with the mans policy and character. Your president is more of an Arab than a black man. It's true. Look it up. Research things and ask questions. Do your homework and workwork and be a fine upstanding citizen instead of blaming the disapproval of a president on unfounded ideas. Racism will always exist.. don't get me wrong.. I truly believe it is a scab on our great country, the last bastion of freedom in this increasingly smaller world. But to blame disagreement on subconcious racism is not helping the situation.. in fact it is bringing the situation to an incendiary tone. America can do without that in this important discussion.

Quote #1 for you.

Quote #2 for you

" Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter. " Martin Luther King .. if you know not of this man I feel bad for you.. you're missing out.

@no2whitey

I define subconscious racism as someone who accuses anyone that disagrees with a president who happens to be black of being a racist.

I define conscious racism as someone who would go by the name no2whitey on a blog.
