“In The Congress, We Have Our Own Rules.”
July 5, 2009 · carl · Print This Article
A refrain all of us hear on a regular basis is that members of Congress are out of touch with the voters, the very people who elected them to office in the first place.
And the following is a prime example of just how commonplace this has become. The report first aired over a year ago, but the meaning of the message is still the same.
In direct violation of Federal law, Pennsylvania 11th District Congressman Paul Kanjorski wants to earmark 5.6 million dollars to build a parking garage in his hometown.
A building that has been empty for three years.
But according to the Congressman, this is “free money.”
Sorry Congressman, these funds don’t appear out of thin air, this is our money you are talking about.
And when questioned about the Federal statute he is violating, his response is:
“I don’t think the rule should have any attention paid to it. In the Congress we have our own rules.”
Congress has rules?
This is the first I’m hearing about it.

This is just a little part of goverment thieft, i imagine how many more governors and mayors are stealing.
And to imagine this idiot is still in Congress!!! And now is surrounded by more just like him, including our PINO!!! It should be very obvious to anyone who has read the Constitution that Congress is, and has been for years, acting in direct violation of that greatest of documents!! I challenge everyone, when was the last time YOU read the Constitution?!
I am certain that there are PLENTY of congressfolks out there who think that the electorate is stupid and not paying attention. Fact of the matter is, the PEOPLE voted, I am told, in record numbers, how many of those votes were legitimate remains of some concern, however, the vote did NOT give the current congress or administration a blank check. But it is VERY apparent that our representatives believe this to be the case, and they DO NOT listen, if in fact they ever did!
It is upon our backs they dwell and we can certainly withdraw our support at the next given moment. We can even request a recall should they not represent our desire. I suggest, as employers, we get rid of the dead weight that is holding our great nation down!
Sadly, when I was working for the Lou Barletta for Congress campaign in 2008, we had this video, and this issue came up in a televised debate and the people of the 11th Congressional district still elected the guy. So many people voted straight D it was disgusting.
Representative Kanjorski is a smug, scheming, and impatient. The guy gave 10 million in federal tax Dollars to his family to start a buisness that the ran into the ground, not to mention 20 million for a riverfront project that beautified the property of two private colleges in Wilkes-Barre and countless other pork projects. He actually threatened to take over PBS to run campaign adds for 6 months before an election. Yet he get reelected year after year.
This is the problem with our county today, people care more about who there voting for American Idol than who they are voting for Congress. Maybe we should make the TV show dancing with your Congressional candidates, or have Simon Cowl (sorry if I spelled his name wrong I have to go to work and didn’t have time to look it up) moderate the Congressional debates with cometary. I can just see it now (in a stuffy British accent,) “Congressman Kanjoski, how did you get reelected all of these years? The people who vote for you must be idiots.”
Luckily next year there is a Democrat running against him in the primary. Cory O’Brian isn’t my first choice, but he isn’t as bad as Kanjorski yet.
Sorry for the rant, I have just spent two many years with Kanjorski as my Congressmen.
Lou
As you said, there is plenty of dirt out there on Kanjorski.
I too was involved with that process, and after the polls closed I headed to Hazleton for Barletta’s victory party.
Along the way, one of my insiders called me and let me know that not only did Kanjorski lose his home county, he lost his home town!
At that stage, I was confident as could be of a Barletta victory, only to be sickened later to learn that it was not to be.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.
Sandra
Salvaterra and I were having this same discussion not too long ago.
You are correct, the arrogance of our members of Congress is something that is truly amazing.
They all believe that we are not paying attention, and sadly in some cases, with some misguided voters, that is the case.
That is one of the reasons the Freedom Medium came to be, because we plan on putting a stop to that.

This article on this particular Congressman is just the tip of the iceberg as far as the stunts he has pulled.
As far as the Constitution, most people, including our elected representatives, as you stated, have probably never read it.
And that is a damn shame.
Really like that PINO remark, we may use that.
Yvonne
The amount of money that elected officials take for themselves is beyonf belief.
And the worst part is, although some of them know that they are no better than common theives, many of them think it is a perk of the job.
Carl,
I worked the polls that day from open to close, when it was said and done, I all the confidence in the world that Barletta had won. My wife and I went out to dinner with a friend of ours who is a Marine, he went awol for a day, and drove 12 hours each way (24 total) to vote in person because he a long with a lot of other Marine thought their absentee votes would be counted (with good cause look at Minnesota.) I couldn’t believe it when I got the news Kanjorski would be my Congressmen annother 2 years.
I couldn’t tell you how many life long Democrats I know voted, McCain/Palin and Barletta. Maybe I need to retract comment about the new Declaration of Independence, maybe the system is so corrupt it needs a reboot.
Sorry to rant, I’m still in shock, I don’t remember in my life working so hard on something only to fail.
Lou
No need to say you’re sorry for ranting.
Yes, Barletta may have gotten shafted in regards to the votes from the military, I wouldn’t put anything past Kanjo.
I too worked the polls all day that day.
When I arrived at Lou’s gathering in Hazleton, I was sure it was in the bag.
I still have a picture on my cell phone of Joe Yudichak, the man featured on the Fox News Special Report exposing the corruption of Cornerstone Technologies.
In the picture, he is wearing a sticker I gave him, the one that said “Vote For Lou First.”
I didn’t have the heart to show it to the Mayor.
