I Can’t Believe I’m Sitting Next To A Republican

I’m a few days behind on my newspaper reading, as I took the weekend off to do some things that didn’t involve political commentary.

Yes, I know, I’m a slacker.

But in the process of getting caught up, I came across this article in the New York Post, and I enjoyed it so much I am going to head out tomorrow and buy the book this excerpt is taken from.

Let me know if you enjoy the story as much as I did.

The phone messages and e-mails from fellow conservatives started coming early on election night 2008 and continued well into the next day. Some were anguished, some merely fatalistic. But all featured at least a dollop of gallows humor.

As the dimensions of the disaster became apparent, my friend Cary announced he might have to skip work.

“For how long?” I asked.

“I’m thinking a year.”

Who could blame him? Obama may be our worst nightmare, front man for every species of noxious, left-wing activism going, front man for every species of noxious, left-wing activism going, but at least he generally makes open-minded noises. In Manhattan offices like Cary’s, the Chosen One’s acolytes often don’t even bother pretending to be civil toward those on the other side of the political spectrum.

Conservatives come in all stripes, but those of us…Read the rest of this entry

I love this article…I was just telling a friend of mine that’s a lefty that the Dem party doesn’t stand for what it used to, it is no longer about the working man..especially now its all about power and greed. And the right is viewed as “EVIL” when indeed we are honest and compassionate people. Yes It’s ridiculous how predictable and close minded the left usually is, yet they view themselves as “evolved”.

    * I loved this line “I always look around to see who else is staying silent. Bingo — a soulmate!” I feel like that all the time!

And my boss still has is Obama sticker on his volvo! Hahaha..that made me laugh! I’m buying the book as well! thank you!

    Validation of your point:

A few years back, I think it was right at he beginning of the term of the first Bush, I was asked by a life-long Democrat how he could go about changing his voter registration to Republican.

When I asked him what was behind his change of heart, he replied:
“Carl, I haven’t changed. I still hold the same beliefs I always have.
But the Deomocrats HAVE changed, for the worse, and I can no longer support them.”

I know exactly how this guy feels, I grew up in a town where the Democratic Primary was the election, and when I went to vote they’d have to dust off the republican rolls to sign me in.

I also have a lot of Democrat friends, but I don’t have the ability to keep my mouth shut so it’s less and less every day.
