YES WE CAN! Damnit, We CAN Stop Sotomayor! YES WE CAN!

Most of the you who are reading this can probably stop reading right now.

Because unless you are ready to get the hell off of your dead butt and actually DO something, reading this is just going to be a waste of your time.

For the rest of you, there IS a way to stop Sonia Sotomayor from being appointed to the Supreme Court.

Seven Senators need to show some courage, they need to forget this crap about Sotomayors’ nomination being a foregone conclusion.

There are seven Republicans who are members of the Senate Committee of the Judiciary.
They are:

Tom Coburn(R-OK)  Click Here for e-mail   Senate Office Phone Number (202) 224-5754

John Cornyn(R-TX)  Click Here for e-mail  Senate Office Phone Number (202) 224-2924

Lindsey Graham(R-SC)  Click Here for e-mail  Senate Office Phone Number (202) 224-5972

Chuck Grassely(R-IA)  Click Here for e-mail  Senate Office Phone Number (202) 224-3744

Orrin G. Hatch(R-UT) Click Here for e-mail  Senate Office Phone Number (202) 224-5251

Jon Kyl(R-AZ)  Click Here for e-mail  Senate Office Phone Number (202) 224-4521

Jeff Sessions(R-AL)  Click Here for e-mail  Senate Office Phone Number (202) 224-4124

You can (and should) make your voice heard, even if your senator isn’t listed above.

The phone number for the main switchboard is (202) 224-3121

I’m not lisiting the information for the Democrats who are members of the committee, I feel pretty strongly that they will vote in favor of Sotomayor, regardless of what they may hear from their constituents.
And we don’t need them.

According to Senate Judiciary Committee Rule IV:

“Debate shall be terminated if the motion to bring the matter to a vote without further debate passes with ten votes in the affirmative, one of which must be cast by the minority.”

This means that if no Republican members of the committee vote in favor of further debate, Sotomayors’ nomination is dead in the water!!!!

If your Senator is not on the list, contact the Senator for your state and make your feelings known, these people do talk to each other.

For those of you whose Senator IS on the list, when you call or e-mail your Senator urging a vote against Sotomayor, hit them where a politician really feels it.

Tell them to forget this claptrap of being labeled as an obstructionist if they fail to go along with voting in favor of Sotomayor.

Make them aware of what voter backlash really is.

Let them know, in no uncertain terms, that if they fail to do the right thing, not only will you not vote for them the next time they are up for re-election, you will work actively for whoever is running against them!

Barack Obama is testing the Republican Party, thinking they will roll over and play dead on this issue.

And if they do, not only will he have been given a mandate for whatever socialist schemes he wants to ram down America’s throat for the rest of his administration, he will have a judge sitting on the Supreme Court who will carry on his legacy long after he is out of office.

John Cornyn is one of my State Senators. I will post this information on my meetup group site. We have hundreds of members and most are very active. I am going to email his office tonight and call tomorrow. Thanks for the information.

She is a bigot and not that smart. Put someone else up.

Sunny Dayz on May 31st, 2009 8:15 pm

Just thought I would let you know that I sent out your blog to my meetup group and I am already getting a good response. One lady is forwarding it to her sister in OK for her group there to contact Coburn.
    YES WE CAN!

It is not dead in the water. It is called a filibuster. This is not a new tactic. Obama will just pick another minority woman who is compatible with his Marxist Neo-Progressive ideology. The devil you know might not be as bad as the one you don’t. Unless you think we can hold it up till the next Congressional election, but then I am sure Obama will just do what Bush did and make her a recess appointment.

In the end this nominee is irrelevant as she only replaces a liberal anyhow. We need to worry when Kennedy or Scalia or Thomas decide to hang it up or are black mailed into retirement or worse…

If we can get any judge, secretary of state, State Attorney Genral, DA to stand up and accept the presentments from the Grand Juries…..and they get Obama out of office on the charges of Fraud and Treason….
All his appointments are gone…..all of them…..all executive order, all bills, everything he has put his name on is Null and Void…
We have to get him out of office on these charges…..
    The Sooner the Better.
I don’t think the Republicans will fight this appointment because they are afraid of being called racists….
THis has gone on about 121 days too long.

@Astrochronic – Sotomayor will likely get onto the bench, but Republicans should pull out all the stops to fight it. This is a perfect opportunity to show how radical Barack Obama is for picking a nominee like Sotomayor and could keep momentum growing for opposition to his policies. And if people get as angry as they should be that she was even nominated, it is in the realm of possibility that she would be forced to withdraw.

As Winston Churchill said, “The only unpardonable sin is to sit back and accept the seemingly inevitable.”

    Sunny Dayz:

Thank you for your support. Please be sure that you and your friends stay tuned in here, as this is an issue I plan on following very closely.
As well as the rest of Obama’s antics.
And it is throughout the efforts of folks like yourself that will help limit the damage that this administration does to this country.

    Sarah Hirz:

I agree. and see my response to Astrochronic.

    Astrochronic:

It would be dead in the water as far as Sotomayor’s nomination moving forward.
As far as the devil you know, we here at Freedom Medium have some pretty good sources, and if the Sotomayor nomination indeed does go belly up, believe me when I tell you that we will have all the relevant information on another nominee.
As far as a recess appointment, there isn’t much that any of us can do about that, but we need to show the President that we are not going to roll over and play dead for him and his policies.
If nothing else, showing some fortitude and taking a stand may prevent him from introducing some off the wall piece of legislation, because he would fear it being closely scruntinized.

    Jacqueline:

I agree with your sentiments, and understand your frustration, however, I just don’t feel that is ever going to happen, and even if it did, it possibly would create more problems than it would solve.
Besides a possible Constitutional crisis, consider the line of Presidential succession.

The next 4 people in line, in order, are Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Robert Byrd And Hillary Clinton!
As much as I disagree with the President’s policies, I don’t think we or America stand to gain anything by swapping him in exchange for one of that crew.

Instead of what will ultimately prove to be a fruitless effort to remove him from office, we should instead focus our energies on returning control of the House and Senate in 2010 to true conservative control.

    Salvaterra:

    Amen my friend.
If nothing else, we can use this to shine a spotlight on the Socialist policies of the President.

As for your quote from Churchill, perhaps thinking like that made the President nervous and that is why he shipped the bust of Churchill that was in the Oval Office back to England.
Couldn’t stand to have the blasted thing staring at him.

And yes,we must keep up the pressure, for as another great man, Edmund Burke once said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

I even e-mailed my Senators who happen to be democrats and told them that even though you’re not going to listen to what I have to say, I’m saying it! And I will remember every vote and will remind everyone else come election time!

    Just say no to Sotomayor!

    carl on June 2nd, 2009 3:36 pm

    Debbie
