Stimulate Yourself Into Depression – Obama Style

March 3, 2009 · Salvaterra · Print This Article

I am finally starting to wake up to the numbers with regard to the amount of money the government will be spending in the coming years. I have been staunchly against the spending bills that have been pushed through Washington D.C.; first with TARP 1, the stimulus, and now the budget. But when I see the numbers put into perspective on the front pages of major newspapers, it starts to get scary.

Obama intends to spend $1.8 trillion that we do not currently have and that we will not be collecting in taxes in 2009. And that is just 2009. There will be similar deficits in years to come.

That amount of money is too much for most people who don’t generally care about politics or economics (in other words, most people) to wrap their heads around. Sure everyone knows it is a lot of money; but try explaining how long it will be before we can pay something like that back to a given family member or friend, and see how quickly you lose their interest.

Obama may be fulfilling his own prophecy when he says “This is the greatest financial disaster since the Great Depression”. And when you see history on the brink of repeating itself, as it appears to be now, it is good to go over some of the lessons learned from that time, which Dennis Berman does in this video.
